So i just pulled the trigger on my first monolight, Elinchrom dlite 4 it. Now I need help choosing a diffuser, whats the most versatile one I can get for cheap on ebay.
I was looking at softboxes & octoboxes but unsure of what size to get,

to trigger a DLite from a RF602 you will need the cable that ends with mini-audio. forgot the exact mm, but its the smaller one like in normal headphones, etc.

The modifier you use is entirely up to you and what you shoot : |

I started off with umbrellas, tried reflective, shoot through, never used the reflectives again, got softboxes, didn't use them, got strip box, loved it, got a BD, loved it for young people, got a huge octa for everything else.

I shoot full body portraits and small groups. Would a octa be a good idea? whats the max size I should be getting for this 400ws light

Start simple, with a 60" convertible umbrella. Eventually, you will buy softboxes etc, but I wouldn't start with them.

I have a d-lite and I would not place such a large heavy box off the end of it.

The reason why I'm leaning more towards a softbox is because I have used them exclusively with my speedlites.

My DLite 4 broke around 10pounds, it wasn't a critical failure though, so i'd assume 7.5pounds to be a safe'ish working limit with the DLite 4, aparently the IT version has a stronger mount and should take upwards of that.

I wouldn't worry too much about the weight, moreso then the stand could tip over.

But i am not responsable for any damages... i fixed mine for about 10$ because the failure wasn't major and i was very careful handing the weight.

The D Lite IT has a built in radio trigger receiver and come with a trigger.

The 602's are not required.

I would look at the Elinchrom 135 Octa

you may find that a nice big octa is a great way to go; versatile enough for a lot of shots. But as you progress, you'll find you want strips, rectangular softboxes, beauty dishes, etc. It's an addiction of sorts ;)

Attention about the transmitter:
D-Lite-it 4 (external link)

The ECO Transmitter is an optional item for single units, but it is part of the three new "D-Lite-it" TO GO Sets.

I also read that the duration of the batteries on the transmitter isn't much good even when put at off so someone remove it for last longer, however i don't known how much robust is the compartment to put and remove often the batteries.

fotodiox and visco are the same items just different names stamped on them. They are great cheap modifiers I have found that hold up well under the extreme torture I put them throw. If I loose one in the wind or damage one I'm only out 35.00. I have 4 of the 4' /48" octas and they work well for outdoor and indoor shoots for full body to head and shoulders.

Spend extra money on an Eli Rotalux softbox, you'll use it forever, lightweight, easy to assemble. Always hated the way other softboxes assembled with individual rods PITA ;)

Are the wescott apollo softbox compatibe with Dlite?

Maybe using a umbrella mount of there is issue with shaft size of the soft box.

Reason I asking still wondering if i go with eli or AB.

If I go eli definately the deep octa will be on my hit list (wish I have the money for quadra hough)
