Typical Rimlight setup?

I was curious how most people setup their rim lights, or if there was a "traditional standard"? Do you typically put it boomed directly above the subject? Is yours normally behind or in front of the subject? What angle? How is it usually modified? Bare flash, snoot, umbrella or soft box?

I can't speak for any standards, as I don't think there are any, but I think whatever gets you the desired effect.
You may not want the rim light all the way around the subject depending on how your background is lit, etc... In which case booming your rim isn't really needed.

Modifiers...same thing. Do you want a harsh rim, or a soft rim?

I know I didn't answer your questions, but I think it just all depends on what you're trying to achieve.

I used to do bare reflector for rim lighting but I have switched over to a couple of strip boxes. I like the effect much better. But as Kechar said its all about taste.
