430ex ii: how to check remaining battery life???

Is there any way to check the remaining battery life on the 430ex ii? How? I dont know when im supposed to recharge except when the flash no longer fires. This can lead me to missing some important shots. Any advice?

Other than the recycling slowing down there's no way that I'm aware of.

nope, i just have to make sure i have a set of fresh batteries when i start shooting... normally at a wedding. after the ceremony, right before the reception begins, i put in a fresh one, just in case it runsout half way into the party.. happened to me once, thinking oh i didnt use it much before at the ceremony time.

On the subject of batteries:
I recently picked up some Eneloop rechargeables and they last a REALLY long time. They're also grouped by color (4 dark blue, 4 light blue, white is also available) so you can easily separate the fresh from the discharged.

For paid shoots redundancy is about mandatory - cameras, lighting, etc.

With batteries my general rule is too many is about right.

And then I carry a box of 36 Copper tops in the event my rechargeables died on me for some reason.
