Well, I pulled the trigger on the 150-500 :)

Tried it at the store and the autofocus was working just fine, although the OS failed to impress me. It was a rainy day so I just tested it taking a few pics inside the store, mostly to see if the AF was working properly, which it did.

It did not feel as heavy as I expected, although I will have trouble handholding at 500mm until I really get used to the lens. It's going to be yet another clouldy day with 60mph gusts so I will not be able to play with it, but overall I think I will be happy with it. Thanks everyone for the feedback!

I truelly think you will enjoy it! Actually I find the OS to be quite effective. Mine also focuses great even inside.

Thanks, I think I will. The OS does work, because I tried taking a shot with it turned off and the difference was night and day. But I will just have to get used to the lens itself - the longest I've shot, before this mammoth, was the very light 70-300. I think that's why I wasn't awed by the OS, kinda apples to oranges :)

WooooHoooo! Congrats on the new lens.

One of the things I realized after owning the 120-400OS for the first month is that there is a learning curve to long optics. Things like camera shake (the OS really is darn good), mirage, haze over long distances, etc are all factors. Give it some time and have fun. I'm sure you'll get some fantastic results.

Listen to this guy!
When I first got my 150-500 my keepers rate was VERY low. I was very upset thinking I got a lemon.
Then, reading the 150-500 thread on the Lens Archive, and specially with hints and tips by Katodog and Gabebalazs, I got MUCH better photos and today I LOVE the lens.. I wouldn't exchange it for a 100-400L even if I could... ;)
Congrats on the lens!

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

I can't wait for some nice weather so I can take this baby outside :)

mirage, haze over long distances, etc are all factors

These never even crossed my mind, makes perfect sense to me.

Does the 150-500 OS do panning mode stabilization?
