I shoot with both Ranger and Quadra packs so i don't feel that limitation.

But of course there is no denying that using the quadra with largesoftboxes in broad daylight as keylight is a no go.

I would go Peters (Pnmd) ways using the strobes and the minis. I'm a quadra owner/user x 2 and love them in full sun to studio work. For the money Peter's way seams to be my next route when buying more lights.

I've thought about doing this. What size?

I have the one that the thread's OP uses. I think 750 but I have a bunch of UPSs that I can plug in the 750 to.

That's still off.

Why would a Ranger or Quadra be easier on location?

That...

I personally don't use inverters as i don't find hauling compacts and a inverter as practical as using dedicated batterypacks with heads.

That...

But a quadra with two heads is like a battery with two monolights. Weight difference aside, there's no more equipment that needs to be taken with.

But personally, weight isn't a factor in my kit.

Weight difference and size aside.. LOL That's the whole point...

Well not everyone have the luxury of not being concerned with weight and size.

Well i have assistance too when i need it, but still doesn't mean i can disregard the size and weight of the gear. ;)

We are not saying that the end result will be any different, we are just stating the obvious difference.

Batterypacks are made for location compacts are made for the studio, not to say that you can't use batterypacks in the studio or compacts on location.

I mean i can get my Quadra in a backpack along with my camera gear and laptop that's invaluable when your shooting corporate portraits in the city with a timeframe of 30-40 minutes.

Not true, this won't be possible with monolights and an inverter. (note the bag is smaller than carry on size) + there is space left for other camera gear.

Also I find that the weight does matter a lot. Keep assistants (friends) happy and they work better :P

thank you. The trick to getting assistants is to shoot a beautiful girl and show your friends. They say wow take me next time you shoot. Then have them go on a regular crappy shoot, when they complain shoot a beautiful girl next time  Well that is what works for me haha

True, I should have mentioned space as well. There are some smally monolights, but I'm not sure of power to weight to size. I just couldn't justify the price to the power of the Quadras. Don't get me wrong, like everything else out there, it each serves a purpose, it just didn't happen to fit what I needed.

Sweet travel pack, BTW.
