Fours days in paradise - we spent some time last weekend in Arran. The early spring weather was outstanding and Arran is superb when the weather is right.

My video of the experience is here: http://www.vimeo.com/22380469 (external link)

And these are some of my best shots (not all taken in the golden hour - as it was a family holiday).

Goat Fell, the highest point on Arran - as we approach on the Calmac 1425 out of Ardrossan (40 minutes from Glasgow).

Arran is known as Scotland in miniature, its a large Island 19 miles long by 10 miles wide and only 15 miles from the mainland. The pretty villages on the coastline are complimented by a rugged and mountainous interior in the north and green rolling hills and woodland in the south.

The beauty of this place even inspired my teenage girls to take an interest in photography and parts of this film features their work.

Blackwaterfoot, where we stayed - it's harbour, bridge and falls - Goat Fell top left.

Kinlock Hotel - where we stayed - can thoroughly recommend it - the pool is lovely.

Sunrise over Ard Bheinn - Arran is very mountainous in the North and the boney ranges make for lovely shots - Ard Bheinn is one of the softer peaks.

My wife's favourite shot - I like it too, but wish I took one stopped down with wider DOF (the wide angle was on the 7D getting one of the timelapses in the video).

The A841 towards Blackwaterfoot reminds me of the Great Ocean Road in Victoria or heading towards Santa Barbara from Malibu.

Holy Island, a buddist retreat. Picturesque to say the least. Wanted a Sunrise photo of this, although its on the other side of the Island.

Thanks you for the encouragement. It is a fantastic place to visit, just have to try and catch the weather.

With kind regards

What a beautiful set!

I quite like the magenta cast on #3, but don't think it works on #2. I have to say though.. That's my 1 and only crit! ;)

Thasnks Scott for the +'ve feedback. I agree with the Magenta cast - it's a really cheap Kood warming filter and I have got to stop using it. I always end up reducing purple and magenta each time I use it - this was a 66% reduction, now I have edited it to 100%.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Thank you David - gotta love that Scottish Broken cloud - it can create some lovely light. There is not much said about that coastal route (I have never heard of it) but its equal to two quite famous ones I have driven in Malubi and Victoria's Great Ocean Road.
