Hey!

I am heading to vegas and I was wondering if it's safe to bring my 5DII - I'll be bringing the 24L and the 35L. Though they seem to be very close in FL, I find that they give off very different looks.

I am just wondering if it's safe to bring my DSLR to Vegas. I will be walking the streets shopping and touring around. The only landmark that I will see is probably the hoover dam - that's it. Asides from that, I will be going clubbing (probably will be leaving the camera at the hotel during those times), and I will be watching the shows (i.e. vegas circ de sole).

Please let me know! thanks in advance.

(and no. I won't be bringing the X100. I can't - the camera will be with my girlfriend as she is traveling elsewhere while I am in vegas with my friends.)

My gear is not nearly as nice as yours but I have never had any issues bringing my gear to Vegas. I still usually hide when I leave it in the room.

You'll be fine on the strip with all the other photogs. If you get a chance there's a camera shop behind Harra's. I wanted to check it out but they were closed when I stopped by. Then again I went out around 11pm to around 2am to try and miss most of the crowds and get some good night shots. There's the gardens at the Bellagio and a cool waterfall in the Venitian. Those were some of my favs, but there's tons to take pics of in Vegas. Here are some of the shots I took there if you want any Ideas on where to go. http://www.facebook.com …1302221561&closeTheater=1 (external link)

if you just walk around on the vegas strip you'll be fine. it's very safe there with tons of cops around so you got nothing to worry about. just carry it in your camera bag so that it doesn't get bump or anything like that. otherwise you'll be safe... have fun...

as far as the circus de soleil show, i know that they usually ask that there are no potography allow. so you can take pics before and after the show but never during the show. :)

I just got back from Vegas couple of weeks ago and I had my 7D with me walking down the strip and there were no issues whatsoever. I even went through a few casinos and security didn't say anything ...I guess as long as you're not taking photos inside then it's all good.

If you're a photographer - bring your camera. If not, leave it and bring your phone.

Sorry, I just don't see the point of anyone not bringing a camera, no matter where they're going. I'v never once left my camera behind because I was afraid of theft. Get insurance (you should have that already, esp with the gear you have) and stop worrying about things.

I guess, LV still hold its old days reputation from very old days. ;)
I was at convention shows in LV for many times. It is safe.

Well, as long as you are not going to strip joint with camera and bunch of Ls.

Check LV photographers thread at another sub-forum here for do and don'ts in LV.

+1 on the insurance. It is cheap piece of mind and wil usually protect against accidental damage too. The shows have a strict no recorder policy, with cirque in particular they have staff looking for recording devices during the show. If your room has a safe you can always put it in there.

yeah, been to vegas many times, and I think it's perfectly safe to bring your camera, especially if walking on the strip or in and around the casinos.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into locked a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

Vegas is a good place, many carpets need to be photographed and shown to them who never see the need to go.

take that camera and all the pics you can.
