Not every day you get to see a steam locomotive heading down the middle of a major interstate.

I had just seen the first picture on RP.net and was thinking that would be an awesome video at that vantage point and now I see it on here. Great pictures/video and thanks for sharing here.

Thanks. The first picture was the only one in the batch that rp.net accepted. They have some weird arbitrary criteria for accepting images in my opinion.

Good series on it. Do they run it often?

Sadly no. The logistics of getting an old steam locomotive on modern railroad tracks is incredibly challenging. They are lucky it seems if they can run it once a year. Check out www.sbrhs.org (external link) for info about this locomotive (or to donate to help them keep it running).

Definitely not something you see every day. Looks like you were in the right spot at the right time.

Yesterday she came back, and I was ready. Though, I regret not throwing the 100-400 on instead of the 24-105. Next time.

There seems to be more heat/smoke coming out of the engine this time. Was the first pass just enough in the boiler to get steam for the whistle and brakes?

Looks like it's headed up hill in those second shots.
