tokina 11-16 2.8, tokina 12-24 and sigma 8-16 are other UWA options as well.

I've got the 15-85 and 10-22, either would work well for you. The 15-85 is an excellent walk around lens for a crop sensor, the 10-22 is a bit more specialized but either one will give you excellent results.

I've got the Tokina 11-16mm. I haven't shot with it yet as I got it this month and I haven't had time to go shooting. I realize the limitations of the range, but I plan on having the 16mm+ range covered. I'm looking at the Canon 15-85mm in the future as an upgrade from my 17-85mm. I plan on using the 11-16mm for landscapes and city stuff.

I looked at the Canon 10-22, Sigma 10-20, and the Sigma 8-16. The Canon looked great, but the Tokina 11-16 was $200 cheaper and got great reviews. The two sigmas were showing lots of fisheye distortion on the wide end, the 8mm especially. You can't put a filter on the 8-16 due to the bulbous front element.

Canon 60D, Canon 17-55mm f/2.8, Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS, Canon 10-22mm, Canon Extender EF 1.4x II, Canon 430EX II, B+W MRC filters, Pelican 1450 with dividers, Think Tank Digital Holster 10V2, 2011 Macbook Pro 15" i7 2.0 GHz 8GB RAM, Canon D10

the Tokina 11-16 has better IQ than the Canon 10-22

not at 10mm or at above 16mm ;)
nor does it have better IQ when shooting into a bright light source, since the image is then dotted with flare spots.

And the Tokina has worse CA than the Canon. I own both and the 10-22 is the one that gets chosen for outdoor daylight stuff.

There are also strong barrel distortion on tokina @ 11mm while it's minimum on Canon @ 10mm

Corners are not the sharpest @ f2.8 but it does improve when stop down.

Yeah, the Canon handles lens flare much better than the Tokina. IF the AF was better and the lens coatings were better, I would say go with the Tokina.

If you want quality wide lenses, you really need to go full frame for the best.

17-40L Is possibly one of the most flare resistant UWA lenses made. It scores highly in all the categories. Sharpness is only a small part of that equation.

I was going to get the Sigma 8-16, as it has incredibly high scores for resolution. Front bulb made it a no go. Need to put filters on there. It also flares worse than the canon because of that.

1) f3.5 is just not fast enough for clubs imo.
2) the $200+ for the canon isn't worth it.

As I mentioned, I plan to shoot in low light.

I would only consider buying the 16-35 if they didn't raise the price.

Got my Canon 10-22 yesterday for the 60D. Just taking test shots, I am blown away with the color accuracy and sharpness of this lens. Easily L quality in that regard. :D

Hopefully I'll get out to the mountains this weekend for some real shots.
