Hi all. I received my 7D this past week and have been watching tutorials and checking out the settings and loving what I see so far. However, I'm trying to explore the built in flash options but cannot access it due to it thinking the external flash is attached when it isn't. Any ideas on what may be causing this? Any help would be appeciated. Thanks!

I had this same issue, the likely issues is the micro switch is stuck thus telling the camera an external flash is mounted in the hot shoe.
If you look @ the side rails of the hot shoe you will see 2 ( left & right) spring loaded metal strips, these are the ones that pushes the micro switch under it, my resolve was to take a clean tooth brush & gently brush under the spring leaf, also searching here( POTN forum) will show similar issues.

There is a little microswitch in the hotshoe, underneath the bars. Sometimes it sticks. If jiggle it, it usually takes care of the problem.

Funny to see this thread this morning, mine started doing the same thing Friday night, I have it boxed up and ready to go back to the Canon service center tomorrow. :(

I tried cleaning contacts but nothing works, I sent it in last month for an AF fix, it wasn't doing that before I sent it in.
