I am using EOS utility 2.9.0.0 to download my images from my EOS 60D. However I want to select only NEW images to download not old ones that I want to keep for a while on my memory card but not download to my computer. I try to select edit/select new but I can't as it's greyed out. How can I just select new images not old ones please?

I don't use this but in the preferences there is a download tab. You can select images not yet downloaded.

Are you asking how to download new images and not images that have already been downloaded?

If so, I use zoombrowser to download. ZB keeps track of images that have already been downloaded and only downloads those that have not been previously downloaded .

If I was me, I would make a new folder in the camera each time I go out and shoot. Oh, I do that already! :-)

Then you just download that folder and leave the rest. You don't need that Canon software to download. Explorer works just fine or Breeze Browser.

Separate folders works great if you have a big card and shoot several games in one day as I do. Makes life a lot simpler.

It works out of Explorer if the OP is either shooting jpegs only or is connected to a card reader. Otherwise, well, especially if connecting the camera directly, you do want to use the Canon software.

I always use a card reader, though, and then you can use Explorer (or a software download/Import app) to get things going and, using your in-camera file sytem is one workable approach.

Yes exactly! I cannon understand why I can't use this (only new images) if it's there. My point is why is it greyed out? What do I have to do to make it active?

Thanks anyway for the replies however. I may have to possibly use the folder option more. Incidentally I shoot raw images and I am on Mac OSX if that is relevant.

Have you thoroughly checked the Help and the User Guide (available online) for the EOS Utility? I haven't but the answer may be there for you.

I think your answer is a card reader. You stick your card in it, go to whatever the mac equivalent of Windows Explorer is, sort the files by date, select the new ones and copy them to your hard drive.

Personally, I use Breeze Browser Pro made by Breeze systems. Check it out, download the trial version, get a card reader and get after it. That is exactly how I just finished going through 5000 pics from a lacrosse tournament last weekend. I had several games on each memory card, each in a folder. If you don't know how to make a folder in your camera, read through the manual. It is the menu where you format the card, or make changes to the file naming. I always reset my image counter to zero before each event.

Good luck. My Canon software never gets used.

Zoom Browser and EOS Utility are 2 different apps that should have come with your camera. I don't use the EOS Utility so I can't tell you why it is "greyed out". I do use Zoombrowser and it does what you want. Have you tried ZB yet?

I've experience this intermittently in the past (on PC) with the EOS utility (it can be finicky). Some suggestions:

- Just shoot a new pic of anything, then connect... see if the computer will see that the camera has a new image
- try a different USB cable
- try connecting directly to the computer and not through a hub (this is what worked for me)
- Reboot

I think if there is a new image on the card, it may just be a problem with the USB cable and not being able to communicate this info to the EOS utility. Hope this helps.

Just for the benefit of anyone with the same problem I checked my EOS prefs and saw the option as below "Show [Lets you select ....]" I selected this and then when EOS opened I then selected the second option " Lets you select .... and I now just download only my NEW images! Seems quite simple now but at the time ....

Glad you got it sorted and it's good you posted a solution with pics.

Now what was that saying about "hindsight"? ;)
