Yeah, I'm still using the older CTR-301P wireless transmitters and they're great for what I do. Very happy with them.

David Hobby, (external link) Mr. Strobist :), (external link) will not recommend them due to the number of issues they've had.

I have 3 YN-560's I use them as optical slaves in almost all my shots. They have yet to fail me or disappoint. The current price on Amazon is ~$70. If you are comfortable shooting manual, then these are golden.

If you need/want ETTL then these aren't the flashes you are looking for.

I've had three of them and none of them exhibit the problems that Hobby had. I'm pretty confident they fixed whatever manufacturing problem that was causing their early models to have a loose connection in the zoom.

As far as the older plastic shoe ones malfunctioning goes, I just fixed mine today. It would start up, allow me to change modes, increase/decrease power, etc but wouldn't fire. Came across this site:

http://www.dealextreme.com …rum.37534~threadid.774287 (external link)

and it shows you what to do. I soldered in a new capacitor into my YN-460ii and it works perfectly now. Got a 400V 47nF capacitor and it is fine.

For the money they are one of the good low cost options. Much better then anything else in their price range. I have their ST-E2, and it does a very nice job controlling my metz's flashes.

Their flashs rating are a bit off on the with the guild number they are not as powerful as they say, but the dedicated flash does ttl. And they do work.

Figures, everyone has good luck with their flashes, but mine (460II) has a recharge problem.

The wireless triggers on the other hand never failed me, RF602 fo life.

Liberation, does everything work except it doesn't flash? If so, your capacitor is bad. I just replaced the one on my 460II yesterday and it works great now.

The only "problem" I've had with the RF-60x triggers is that when the battery gets below a certain point, it won't fire. It will still give you the right lights, things will light up, and look like it should be working, but you won't get a flash. When in doubt with YN stuff, replace batteries.

yeah I experience the same thing.

Got me to wonder if this happens to even the more expsensive triggers like skyports or PW.

I bought a YN-560 about 6 weeks ago and fell in love with it, until this happened...

GOOD NEWS is that I sent this image and a description of what happened (wind picked up and blew my light stand & umbrella over) and I got this response...

"Dear Sir,

Thank you for your E-mail! You can purchase this part made of metal now from us, the price is 16 USD."

Im currently waiting for the part to arrive. They gave me a tracking # and had it shipped within days. So far, Im impressed with the customer service! I will be sure to post photos during and after the repair ;)

I read lots of bad reviews about YN flashes with plastic feet not being so good with QC and such when researching flashes, and read that the ones with metal feet seemed to be better QC'd and quality wise. Both mine have metal feet and have been flawless.
It is pretty cool that you can get that foot replaced. Congrats!
