Pearl Harbor, the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial.

The Honolulu Fish Auction.

The state capital building.

The state judiciary building (remember the title shots of Hawaii Five-O).

Which island are you going to be on. But in general, just about anyplace you go there would provide some good photo ops.

If you're going to be in Oahu, rent a car for a day or two and take a drive around the island. Besides the places mentioned by Bob, also look into Pali Lookout (nice scenics of the other side of the island from atop a mountain (cliff?). Not really Hawaiian but more Japanese but none-the-less breathtaking is the Byodo-In Temple (another icon you'll be able to spot in the Hawaii-5-0 title opener :) ). And, of course, there is the pineapple plantation.

Hanauma Bay is nice, although it's usually quite crowded. There's another place which, I think, is called "The Blowhole".

Don't stand too close with your camera...

As Leo said, just about anywhere provides great opportunities on the island of Oahu.

If you are into shows, check out the Polynesian Cultural Center. It is quite a drive from HNL but is a great show.

Sandy Beach has some of the best waves for body surfing in the south Pacific. Provides for great action shots. Of course there are the creatures that stay on the beach which provides pretty good viewing as well.

The north shore is where you will find the hard core surfers and awesomely large surf. If you have a long lens you can get some decent surfing shot. Of course the beach creatures apply here as well.

If you are staying right in HNL and are into sunsets, Waikiki provides some awesome sunsets.

The drive all along the east coat of the island provides for some very dramatic scenery. If you are lucky you can even see whales fairly close to shore along here. Of course there are beaches and their creatures to check out along the way.

I can't remember the name of the park but there is a nature park that you walk through and up to a very nice waterfall. It is on the drive to the north shore if I remember right.

Enjoy your trip.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

And, oh yeah, there's also Punchbowl National Cemetery (another recognizable Hawaii 5-0 scene shot in the opener :) ). There's a lookout there where you can get a very nice birds-eye view of Honolulu, Diamond Head, the coastline, etc. down below.

Waimea Bay and falls. Also very nice and less well known (read: less crowded) is Manoa Falls, up by the UofH.

One of the things I do every time I'm there is hike up Diamond Head and catch the sunrise. Unbelievable views. From what I understand they have finished the renovation of the trail, so you won't have to crawl out the front of a WWII bunker to reach the top.

Also not advertised much but a very cool place is right past the Dole pineapple plantation on the H2. About a half mile past the plantation going North, there's a stand of palm trees on the left with a bunch of rocks in the middle. These are the "birthing stones", where all the ali'i (royalty) of Oahu were born.

Can you tell I really like Oahu??

Life is good. Photograph it.
