Lyndön Goldmember More info | Apr 17, 2011 18:24 | #6 Some of the Nikon's, like my sb-26s, have an optical mode as well. You could use an on camera flash or a single flash transmitter to fire multiple flashes. There are also infrared triggers, optical triggers, and the PC cord option with a generic hotshoe. Wireless is probably best though, it has less limitations. And yeah, manual flash only regardless.

The only exception to this statement is if the manufacturer (like Metz or Quantum) offers interchangeable modules to change the compatibility of the flash from one camera brand to another. Apr 17, 2011 19:13 | #9 ok cool! i figured it would have to be in manual mode. so if i eventually get a 430exII , these triggers should fire both flashes? http://www.flickr.com/photos/astrographer/

For wireless flash with purely manual control of flash power (via the flash unit's normal controls only), such a wireless trigger system would suffice.
