Just not sure I captured to the best of my ability what was going on here. Waited in the car for about 20 minutes until the rain let up enough to exit the car with camera gear. Obviously, it was a dismal day and pretty much the only 'color' going on was a sea of daffodils.

I got down as low as I could go but was already in standing water. Given what you see, feel free to make some personal observations on what might have been done differently or better to make this a more interesting shot.

I like the contrast between the drab colored background/foreground and the bright flowers, that tree on the left side is distracting though. If you moved to the left would the tree and picnic bench have been out of frame? Other than that, nice shot.

Moving your feet would have helped a bunch here. Like Stephen said the tree and bench are taking away from the flowers.

thank you for your thoughts and tips. It was a bit 'messy' to get any shots due to recent rains. Did get several shots, but liked them even less than this one. Will keep shooting and getting better, I hope!

I've looked at this post a few times, and I just wish this was at a little different angle. Keep Shooting though!

Actually, I do have a couple more. Not sure they're any better. What, in terms of 'different angle,' can you suggest? All ears, here! And again, I had to sit in the car for about 20 minutes until a break in the non-stop rain we have around here let up enough to get out with my camera. Plus, it was just plain swamp around the beautiful flowers. Here are a couple more. Do either of these represent a 'better' angle, in your opinion?

Thanks for your comments. Appreciate it.

Or this one which I like because of the stark difference in the flowers vs surrounding. Like the crop better, too.

Nice contrast but most would dismiss it as falling into the record shot category. You can get lower and play with uwa distortion by making a single flower stem look super extended. Alternatively, you can try the same but with a small extension tube for supersized blooms that almost fill the frame whilst retaining sharpness. If you have a tripod and its a windy day, stick your shutter around 1/15 sec for abstract "painted" images.

Fonz,

thanks for the ideas. Did you see all the water?!!! It's done nothing but RAIN for the past month where I live. Tried to get as low as possible, but short of lying in standing water / mud puddles, this is what I could 'comfortably' get that afternoon!

on the first shot, try a vertical crop to remove the braches/trunk in camera left/right while keeping the trees in the background.

Due to several problems, I now have an anti grovel device which allows me to use the camera in portrait mode whilst resting the body on my foot. If the af won't beep I'm standing too close.

I really like the second shot but it might be more interesting from a lower angle (which, it looks like you had no option to do given the rain).

I love the contrast in colours - those yellows really stand out! nÂș 2 is my fav, but i think it would look better if you moved slightly to the right, and if it was vertically cropped so that the tree on the left would be out of scene, yet eyes would still be on that beautiful trail of yellow.

thanks for the ideas folks. Really appreciate your time to look and make helpful comments. Maybe it'll quit raining around here in JUNE this year! We've already had the wettest April on record and 3rd COLDEST April on record. Would have LOVED to get all the way down for some better shots of the beautiful colors.
