I really didn't ONLY shoot eagles when I was in Alaska... This is (I'm pretty sure) a thick-billed murre.

Agree with Steve about CW rotation but, other than that, it is a 3 thumbs up! I wish my trip to Alaska 2 years ago had been as productive! I'm curious, Judy, whether you were using a tripod on this trip or were you handholding your 100-400? I know Artie is a big proponent of tripods even with the 400's. I don't think I've seen one of these posted here before. A clockwise location to level this out would be my only suggestion, your exposure is perfect. tkerr wrote in post #12245728 ![]() Very Nice. Cute looking little bird. Personally I like the angle and wouldn't mess with it. Pictures of birds swimming perfectly horizontal are a dime a dozen and don't always look natural. Thanks to you both, and this is the same debate I was having internally. I finally came down on the side of: this is what it looked like at the time. -- jgr

No, I wasn't using the tripod. I have one, I brought it along, but frankly with the 100-400 it's just generally overkill for most shots. This particular shot was one where I couldn't have used the tripod: we were on a moving boat heading across the bay when we spotted this character. -- jgr
