Not sure there is any difference other than marketing. But on the other hand people having been building with the PST versions with good results. This version is as far as I can tell untested in this application. Why risk it?

Additionally I have a read a report of two of the 300 watt units failing and a high return rate to samlex with this studio light application. I would consider the 600 watt unit.

I use a PowerBright 600 watt unit the specs almost exactly like the Samlex unit paired with a Optima Yellow top deep cycle AGM 55 amp hour battery. A Stinger brand battery Charger ( not float or trickle but a smart maintainer type) and 4 gauge cables.

I have fired up to 5 lights at once with out issue in testing. (2 einstiens, 1 b1600 and 2 b800s)

Need to make sure your battery can provide enough spike power, and has enough reserve for your intended use. Quality of connecting cables matter. Make sure you get the right kind of charger. Keep your unit charged at all times when not in use.

Keep in mind as well that you are dealing with a lot of power so be safe and methodical as you work.

The only reason I'm looking at it is because I can get them for cheap locally. I will be using powerful lipo battery's

dont get it it wont work. I had/have it and it wont fire my alien bee @ 1/64th power
The difference between this one and the pst model is that the pst model is rated for 120volts and the ssw is rated at 115volts +/-3 if i remember correctly. I am not an electronics guy but I know it didnt work for me.

I was gonna go with the diy pure sine wave pack but I just bought two vagabond mini's.

A 400ws elinchrom will fire happily when used with the pack. The main advantage is that the 120V power source is ridiculously light and great for running and gunning.
