When Im using an external flash, Manual (church service if I can, although it can be distracting so be careful. Reception halls, and sometimes outdoors for fill flash or using OCF).

When Im not using flash, AV for most situations. Manual if I can't get a particular shot I want.

Aperture always outdoors.

Aperture indoors when not using flash.

Only time I ever use Manual if I am using flash indoors.

When I'm second shooter for The Wife, I'll shoot about 75 percent AV, 25 percent M. She shoots about 75 percent M, 25 percent AV.

Manual when the lighting is constant. AV when it is changing.

Manual-all the time. Learned it from sports/events in general. Flash when needed. Small protestant churches in our area don't seem to care about flash so I use it as long as it doesn't distract.

M all day.

Mostly on camera, bounced, sometimes mix in OCF if the room isn't well-suited to reliable bouncing.

My wife and I shoot manual 95%+ of the time, I will occasionally switch to AV if we're moving quickly through different situations, (external link) like from inside sanctuary to outside exit shots. (external link)

AV 90% of the time. Btw in manual how do you guys get quick shots when the exposure is jumping all over the place. Do y'all underexpose by a stop to keep it consisted?

If the exposure is jumping all over the place, I wouldn't be using manual. I'd probably use Av. There's not any point to being in manual if you're just chasing the needle around.

Good point and that's why I don't use M a lot during weddings. Too much stop-start and this can result in losing contact with people with whom you're directing for the most part. Because I shoot mostly outdoors and light varies dramatically with as little as a 45 degree turn I find that AV & TV are more useful. I've found the downside to AV being the shutter speed can drop too low at times if I'm not consisitently checking, so I'm having great results lately with TV. But for landscape I wouldn't use anything else but manual.

Thanks for clearing this up guys. Cause I mostly shoot AV doing everything because I got tired of chasing the exposure around.

Av is handy for quickly changing situations, but M makes your post processing easier if the lighting's constant. I get my M settings by taking a shot in Av, transferring the settings to M, then tweaking with the histogram.
