i often think i am giving up some advantage by not using custom settings but i don't even know how i would start to categorize let-a-lone prioritize them. can you tell us how you decide on what custom settings you save and why?
yeah, it doesn't always give me an advantage but sometimes it saves steps switching between common settings.
as an example, say I have a standard zoom lens on a body at a reception.
maybe my standard walk around settings with it are 1/60 f4 iso 1600 with flash enabled, maybe even ai servo if i'm shooting entrances or something.
i might have that starting point saved as C1
then for C2 maybe i'll have 1/30 2.8 iso3200 no flash, standard focus, but burst dialed in for when i want to go ambient only for something here and there.
instead of litterally changing 5 or 6 settings, then those same setting back,
i change just the mode dial, and maybe turn on/off IS.
now if the C2 settings are Av instead of manual, you are only saving a couple steps becuase the last aperature and iso settings are saved seperate in Av anyway.
and sometimes i acutally use a second camera for ambient only, while another is set up for flash photography, etc. so custom functions don't matter as much then.
but there is a lot you can associate with the custom modes, and it takes about 4 seconds to set them.
I do use them more for derby then weddings though, tbh.
because i can set one for panning, one for stopping action and one for crowd shots, etc..
