If you had no other option, which prime would you use?

if you could only use one lens, a prime lens, which would it be?

this assuming all existence would end if you switched lenses, lol.
also, please mention on what body (FF, 1.3x, or 1.6x)

for me, it'd be 35L on 5D2. i'd probably take that lens to my grave.
the only way i'd give up that lens is if i switched to leica, which is highly unlikely.

gotta love the 35L. perfectly wide. narrow enough to be a good walk around. fast AF, sharp at 1.4

Since I'm a student on somewhat of a budget, I'd have to go with my 50mm f/1.4. It's been my most reliable lens in most any situation. (on a 1.6x crop)

50mm focal length on full frame. Guess that'd be ~24mm for a crop sensor then.

What kind of question is that? Which prime would I use for what?

Each focal length has a purpose ... each lens in my bag has a purpose. If I could use only 1 I'd use the proper one for the image I wanted to create.

Why do I get the daily feeling around here as though people buy lenses just to have lenses?

it was a curious question about what kind lens people would try to make work for their photography in general.
i know that a wide angle wouldnt be so helpful photographing wildlife from a distance, but the question is about what lens would you use if you had to use something for everything you shoot. essentially, im asking what lens do you feel would generalize the best for your photography

I'm with you, probably my 35L on my 5DII, but the great thing about using an interchangeable lens camera is...changing lenses, so I could never go with one lens only.

very true. would make SLR's pretty much useless. then again, we are assuming the universe would implode :D

You said it. 35L on 5d2 is my dream kit. I'll always have to have a tele here or there for random sports shots or something but most of what I want to do is covered by 35mm.

Since I don't know what a 35L looks like on a 5d2, I'll go with my siggy 30 on my 450D.

Just one prime? Since I own FF, 1.3x, and 1.6x bodies it would be the 24L.

I would keep my 24 (1.6 camera).

...but as soon as I see so much as a squirrel, I'm mounting the 400 and ending all existence. Sorry!

I would keep my 200 f/2
And it would not matter whether I was keeping just the 1.6, the 1.3 or the FF body.
But I would cry a lot as you carry away the 300 2.8. The rest of them....well....they could just go away.
I like to shoot tight, in case you haven't figured that out yet !
