I don't know about you guys, but it pains me to see people post pictures for comment and critique, in this thread and any others, and have them go to the second page, or further, without even a casual comment.

We all post pictures or ask for advice. And mostly we want some kind of comment and/or critique on them. This is what helps us improve and learn.

So I ask you...
When you visit this forum, or any other one that people post pictures for comment and/or critique or ask for advice, please take a minute to look for any threads with zero replies and give a small comment or critique. I know that sometimes I simply have nothing to offer, but even if it's just something small and casual, often times this will jump start the process of others joining in.

Not trying to get flamed here. Just trying to help out. :D

you should post this thread in the "discuss people photography" section. Not the photo sharing section.

Just trying to help out.

OP, I understand your point but, at the same time, we cannot force anyone to critique. Just because someone posted a photo does not mean that I have to comment on it. ;)

I usually try to offer some comment on those posts, but I also use the rule that if I cant say something positive or something helpful, then I move along. Its not that I wont critique, but I dont want to be the constantly negative guy either.

I'm the same here.

Plus I still see myself pretty new to photography, and feel that my advice most likely won't be the best. I can sometimes see that a picture isn't "right", but I'm not sure what would make it better. Its hard to offer CC. :-/

Not the right forum but still a good topic here:
i) Photo comments are mob-rule. If the first comment sets the right tone, everything flows like butter. That's just human nature.
ii) Someone else said it elsewhere, but unless the photo is really bad or really good, it's tough to get play on it. I've resigned myself to take heart at silence because there's nothing wrong with being average when you're surrounded by brilliance.

Most people do not want to give negative constructive criticism, or are not qualified to.
Also nobody wants to be the first to come on and say 'awesome pic' and then have everyone behind them say it is 'crap'.

Obviously good work gets quick and multiple responses.

Not necessarily. A see a bunch of posts that are great but go uncritiqued.....If hey are great, it doesnt mean they are perfect. Since they are pretty good, people pass them by. If they are outstanding, people say something usually, or if they are sub-par, people jump all over them.

But often, the non responses are due to time of day and what day of week. But I agree with the OP....if you post for critique, then you should also offer it up. Even amateurs have an opinion (But should stay within their level of critique).

But also, there is a critique section if you want actual critique instead of comments and critique for those of us that arent qualified to offer critique, we should just give comments.

I disagree that this thread is on the wrong section. This thread isn't about discussing the photography, its about discussing the photographers. [/tongue in cheek]

I completely agree with the OP and I used to do quite a bit of replying to zero reply threads even though I was (still am) underqualified to provide substantial input much of the time. I don't have as much time to reply, but I also don't post images that much either. I just don't have as much time to shoot, post or reply as before.

This place is meant to be a community, but there are some people who post more for "advertisement" than for true C&C. It's nice to have highly talented people posting here, and many will answer questions about their techniques which is very helpful. Still, it would be nice if more of the "pros" would spend a little more time nurturing (not blowing smoke...) some of the newer photographers.

Although I understand where you are coming from (op) and have made an effort to motivate the posters with 0 replies with atleast a casual comment, i will say this:

I have come to a conclusion that if you have 0 replies and a lot of view, or a very small amount of replies, you are on the right track and are doing something right. Keep shooting and you will perfect your skills to a point where your pictures are on par with the rest of the brilliant images that some of the members share. If you are recieving a lot of positive feedback... well before you even post you images you already know that you are very highly skilled and enjoy the fact that people love seeing your work, the comments therefor are just there as a token of appreciation for the excellent execution.

now, if you recieve a lot of feedback that is (not necessarily negative) not positive, it doesnt mean that your work sucks, it just means that there are techniques that you have yet to perfect and people are giving you helpful pointers. THere are very few posters that I have seen who actually make hurtful comments that offer no help at all. if you made a post with one of these, take every bit of imformation you can from it and practice practice practice. Nobody starts off perfect, while other can advance faster there is still the threshold to greatness. I have recently went back and looked through my pictures a year ago....and felt like puking in my mouth, they are worthless compared to what I take now (i still suck, just a little less :) ) but are not worthless in the sense that they are the road that you have followed in developing the skills that you will posses at a later time.

thats just my opinion....
