Many/most of these were shot with the Tamron on a 5DII in AI Servo, ISO3200. From all the talk about low light and the crappy focusing of the 5DII and the Tamron, these must be impossible :-)

If I can set the camera to ISO3200, lens to f2.8 and there is enough light to get a shutter speed that I can handhold, that's all I ask for and the Tamrom delivers. I've never been tempted by the Canon.

funny.. i'd like swap my tamron for the canon. IQ seems to be similar enough, but the weather sealing puts the L over the edge for me.. and i just got my tamron a month ago! hindsight, heh.

I think I would have a hard time "downgrading" from the Canon 24-70 if I already had it, but the Tamron 28-75 is good enough that I personally can't justify upgrading from where I currently stand.

Having just upgraded from the Tamron to the L, all I can say is that IQ wise they are pretty much identical - trying to pick the better one is like splitting hairs IMHO. The L does, though, appear to have slightly better bokeh.

Both will hunt in low light if there is a lack of contrast...I'm sure the L will hunt less in challenging situations but I have yet to test it in depth.

The Tammy is a frickin awesome lens period. Buy the L if you want USM, build quality, weather sealing and the extra 4mm - three of those points were important to me. If any of those aren't important, stick with the Tammy and put the money towards another lens or body.

Exactly.

I think my plans is to get the 135L and T28-75, both for a little more than the 24-70L alone.

That sound's like a good option! I think the 135 is def on my list but not before the 85.

I've owned at one time or another the Canon 24-70, The 2 Sigma 24-70s, the Sigma 24-60 and the Tamron 28-75 and I must say that the best value was by far the 24-60 f2.8. It blew the nuts off the the other 2 Sigmas and the Tammy. The Canon was better in the corners but not by much and of course the cool hood and weather resistance of the Canon was better than the 24-60 but then the 24-60 was barely bigger than my Sigmalux.

I kept the L for quite sometime and then replaced it with a very good copy of the non-HSM Sigma 24-70 f2.8. I just didn't use the L enough to justify it sitting in the bag gathering dust. I wanted the 24-60 but couldn't find one at the time.

Canon 5Dii, Sigma 24mm f1.8, Sigma 50mm f1.4, Sigma 85mm f1.4, Sigma 24-70 f2.8 EX Macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 Macro, Canon 135 f2L, Zenitar 16mm f2.8 fish eye (on the way)
A pile of ocf gear and modifiers.

There is a Sigma 24-60 (Canon) (external link)currently bidding on eBay for $199. Someone should grab it!

I am personally not sure the 60mm aspect is long enough for me.

How does your current Sigma 24-70 stack up against the 24-60 you owned?

My current Sigma 24-70 EX Macro is really great. It isn't quite as good as my 24-60 was and it is a lot larger, but it handles the role of walk around lens quite well. The only thing that bugs me sometimes is it does have a tendency to flare in some lighting situations. I don't think the hood was really designed well.

The 24-70 macro is also close in size and weight to the L. It also zooms like the Canon where at 24mm the lens is at its longest length and 70mm is shortest. Just wish they used Canon's cool hood.

I should also add that this lens for me is a walk around when I don't want to carry a bag of primes. For me having the L or the Sigma or the Tamron doesn't make much difference as the lens regardless of brand doesn't see much use. I sold the L to free up cash and give someone else the opportunity to use the lens more than I was.

I love my Tammy too! Mine is sharp wide open and focuses fast. I can't complain.

Sharpness isn't everything especially the center sharpness. Then there is also CA...
