I don't really think any of this as an emergency, it looks like Jerry's light spread in his test shot looks excellent. I'm working with my Demi, I like it a lot and I've also actually used it with the diffusion on two days ago which makes it a 22" round softlight, worked it really close to a face and loved that too. But it's not magic, I think if you work with any one of them for a while and get used to what you can do with it, you'll probably come to rely on it to make your own magic. I got started with the Mola Demi because I liked what I saw that a bunch of fashion photographers were doing, the cost of a Demi to them in very small compared to the budgets they probably work with - just a guess from my own experience when working in advertising and commerials. So I thought I'd give it a try and I'm glad.
Re Jerry's big BD, compared to the Euro, the Euro is about 10" smaller, the design of the big dish and also Mola's big dish appears to be quite a bit bigger in effect than the Euro and I've read that it's quite good as a fill light but as always if it's a softlight of something like 44", then it at least will act like a 44" softlight with hopefully more diversity. One big advantage with Jerry's if all other thing light wise are equal, his is made I believe of synthetic, if in fact you can use that with strobes that have modeling lights is whether the heat is a problem, I think it is with Jerry's 22". But if they are used with strobes that have the LED modeling lights, I'm willing to guess it's not a problem. But a huge thing is the weight difference. My Mola Euro is 12 pounds, I would imagine Molas bigger BD is much heavier and that has to figure in a heavier stand etc, you'd probably want a nice Junior stand with one of the reallhy big grip heads plus a grip arm through that to help tilt it. By the way the Euro barely tilts forward if you do not use the grip arm trick to extend it out from the light stand towards the front about 6" and it starts getting a bit top heavy and asks for more sandbags. Bigger is bigger, all the way from the light down to the ground.
Just things to consider, I know that Jerry tested the heck out of his BD comparing it to everything out there on the market, I talked to him about this, and why shouldn't he have done that, it makes good sense. My sole reason for not getting Jerry's dish was the heat factor as I'm using Elinchrom BX400's with 250W modeling lights.
