First time doin' something like this for someone... my friend's solo rap project is starting to get pretty popular and he wanted some promo shots. Let me know what you think.

if this is for promo, dont put this out there. it would hurt any street rep or cred.

not the typical advice i give, but since this is for promo ill give it to you straight.

different dude is necessary. i would advocate against wearing that company if i saw that as the face of the company.

focus on lighting, crop, perspective and pose. best of luck.

though the first is acceptable if you must use it, but hes covering the shirt...

I agree with the above. Try looking at other promo photos for rappers so you can get a feel of things. Use that 430EXII of yours off camera and make some cool dramatic lighting.......but for real I wouldnt use these but would shoot again after researching the "look" of promo photos. Best of luck. Is his music online? <-----link

Well, this is sort of the "look" he's going for..., he's not a kill/rape/get hookers type rapper... he's also in a local pop/punk band and he takes his style of rapping from his roots in that band.

For the first few shots with the shadow I had the speedlite about 45 degrees facing him from the left of the camera. I wanted to try something I hadn't really seen done although in the end I sort of feel it looked just sloppy. He really liked them all so I kept what is all there.

For a promo they just seem out of place. First photo is the better one of the set for sure.

Checked out the fbook page too, i like the Muse track in the first song
