I've taken a zillion swinging pictures of my daughter.
Every one of them is priceless in my eyes. There is no better expression on a child's face than the pure joy of swinging, and that is absolutely evident here.

So precious!

You didn't ask for critique, so i'm not going to give any.

Enjoy that young'un...they grow up way too fast!!!

EDIT: brought a tear to my eye thinking about it!
Thought i'd share a swing shot with ya...

please, critique is welcome. It was hard to get the shot "just right" because she was swinging and i was maneuvering to avoid getting kicked (which I did a few times). Was using my flash for this shot. don't have the EXIF readily available though.

probably lighten a little since she's wearing a black shirt and the seat is black, to separate her from the background?

Only two things I would say about this shot.

1) The harsh sunlight partially coming across her face is a little distracting (overcast is your friend!!!).

2) The tilted camera makes me unbalanced. To me there is nothing that says this picture should be tilted. When a tilted picture makes you feel like you are falling off the image, or you tilt your head to really see the subject, it means to me there was no need for it to begin with.

As I said above...no matter what, it's a lovely picture, and it effected the viewer (me) emotionally. That speaks more than anything to me!!!

i actually believe this image is SOOC, so no work was done to it. Picture was captured at that angle. Next time I take them out I'll straighten the camera. i kind of like the lighting. I did use the flash for fill, but not much I could have done to minimize the sunlight since it was a bright sunny day. Like you said, capturing the emotion means more to the parent/viewer than the specifics. Thanks for the input!

Critique? It's nailed and I like the angle. Very 'happy' shot you'll want to hang onto.

I love #2... you can almost feel like you're on the swing yourself... great execution!

That was just me sharing a swinging photo with OP...don't want to steal his thread.

. . . don't have the EXIF readily available though.

As embedded in your post:

Camera Maker: Canon
Camera Model: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT
Lens: 28.0-135.0 mm
Image Date: 2011-04-15 12:44:05 (no TZ)
Focal Length: 28mm
Aperture: f/8.0
Exposure Time: 0.0020 s (1/500)
ISO equiv: 100
Exposure Bias: none
Metering Mode: Matrix
Exposure: Manual
Exposure Mode: Manual
White Balance: Auto
Flash Fired: Yes (Auto, red eye reduction mode, return light detected)
Color Space: sRGB

I think it's well worth being hypercritical of all aspects of our family pictures. The people are important to us. The images will be viewed for many years, even as our skills and equipment may improve.

Especially since you both had fun, I suggest a repeat shoot to move the swing pix from okay to great.
