Well, I am waiting for B&H to get back open from the church break thing so I can buy the 85L. I think every time I have wanted to buy something from them that are on some extended break (I think I need a job there!).Anyway, I have been hoping a mint one would come up for sale on here or FM, but have not saw any that fit the bill. I know as soon as I hit the buy button at B&H, one will pop up on here (aint that the way it always goes lol).Anyway, I was going to do the Sig 1.4, but I think I will just stick with the red ring sexyness :-) Just waiting and thought I would share, sorry if I wasted a few seconds of your time :-)

No wasted time at all, totally understand your excitement. I am looking forward to the day when I can pull the trigger on one of these beauties. To me it is the ultimate lens for a portrait photographer.

If you purchase a used 85L hold out for the MKII model - much quicker focusing.

Oh for sure, I only wanted new or like new (within a year or so). The oe I am buying now is a UY date code, Im happy!

You will not be disappointed by it.

people complain about it's AF speed.
people complain about it's size/weight.
people complain about it's lack of weather sealing.
people complain about it's price.

I am paying 1850 for it (his asking price) as I think it is a fair price.

As for the AF issue, I have used this lens before, and if you use it for what it is built for (what I think it is anyway), then the AF is not an issue.
The size and weight...I just aint a puss lol
Weather sealing...Easy, stay out of the rain...If it looks like rain, take the 70-200 (or whatever).
Price...If you cant afford it, there are other nice lenses that are cheaper.

I agree, it helps in making some great photos!!!

Congratualtions on your purchase, what is the recommended aperture to use with this lens when used in studio portraiture photography? i also own this lens and find i am always pushing aperture to below f2 just because i know it can go that far. Intersted in some more professional opinions in this area
