ATT 600d owners: autoiso

did canon fix the ongoing bug on the auto-iso?

For example in manual mode is set like

shutter: 1/100
aperture: f4
and iso set at auto

Does the iso vary from shot to shot depending on lighting condition? or does it stay in 400 or just 1 iso?

Canon cant seem to make auto-iso work in manual mode. it only sets it to 400 on my 40d.

Why on earth would you put your camera in manual mode and then want the camera to manage the ISO for you? There are huge detail & noise implications associated with choosing the wrong ISO. I don't get it.

I am not going to go outdoor and then indoor with it. a variation from 200-800 is fine with me. It may not be useful for you but its useful for me.

Any 600d owners here? Thanks

the point really is i want to keep my 2.8 lens shooting at 4 and shutterspeed shooting no less than 1/60th so avoid motion blurs. Id rather have a noisy image than a blurred or too shallow of a DOF shot

I do that from time to time, it's not unheard of.
If you want sort of an AV AND TV priority mode, the auto ISO is a good way to balance out slight changes in light condition. I use that sometimes for birds in flight where I need a specific aperture and a fast minimum shutter speed at the same time while the birds fly in and out of sun and shades.

I never used it on the 40D, didn't work well. It works pretty well on my 7D and great on the 60D (more options on the latter)

So you can set in M mode and the auto-iso moves up and down depending on exposure?

Great! I actually have 60d on order and somehow got the idea it had the same 40d prob which led me to hope that 600d has this fixed.

I am still on the fence on the 600d and 60d. I seem to value weight more than naything else. I do love the ligthweight kitlens. i do not have a kitlens at all. i only have 2.8 lenses which are all heavy.

Did you get the 18-135mm? My 60d will come with it. Hows the bokeh? not much samples on flickr...just a ton of car photos.

I had the 18-135, decent lens, I used it for about 2 shots, and sold it since I don't have the need for it. :)
The 600D should have similar auto ISO capabilities as the 60D AFAIK

The 40D didn't have a problem, it was done like that by design. If there was a problem it was with the marketing people, who defined the desired functionality.

But from the 7D, you can use Auto ISO in manual mode too, and it will adjust over the range it has. Some cameras allow you to set the top ISO, some not.
