Last month I was photographing waterfowl along the Ottawa River. A pair of Canada Geese were resting on the ice edge when a second pair began swimming to shore. The first gander took exception to the new arrival and a chase began.

Canon 40D and Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 handheld.

ExposureTime - 1/1250 seconds
FNumber - 5.60
ExposureProgram - Manual control
ISOSpeedRatings - 160
MeteringMode - Spot
Flash - Flash not fired, compulsory flash mode
FocalLength - 200 mm
ExposureMode - Manual
White Balance - Auto

1. Gander begins his defense.

2. The Attack

IMAGE: http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s219/Squidcan/Birds4/CanadaGoose_02.jpg

3. The pursuit continues

IMAGE: http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s219/Squidcan/Birds4/CanadaGoose_03.jpg

4. Triumphant Return

5. Touch Down

6. Still Calling!

Those are great! I love watching the Canada Geese who live here in Southern California near my house. (I'm a homesick Canadian...) I've never seen this sort of thing, so I'm loving your series of shots. Very cool.

Thank you Sue for taking the time to comment. I'd like to visti Southern California sometime to see the wildlife tha you have there.

As for Canada we had some freezing rain this morning but I'm sure that spring will arrive weatherwise very soon. Come back home anytime! ;)

Excellent CG shots Stephen! Nicely frozen action shots, sharp as can be with great colors too! The CG's around here have been pretty agitated lately too, I guess it's that season:-)

Very nice set. The action is terrific.

Thanks Judy. The sun & wind were at our backs and the birds were in front of us so it all worked out. :D

Bret thank you. I actually have about 3 more images of the return but I thought that I'd shown enough with these 6.

Randy thank you for the kind words. I must say that I don't appreciate them as much when they block my road on the river bike paths on my commute to work in the summer! ;)
