I am trying to help my daughter with her new Mac/Elements 9 combination but as I am a Windows PhotoshopCS4/Ligthroom user I am having a problem. Basically I cannot find the option to change the paper type in Elements - it doesn't seem to exsist. I have looked on various tutorials and they all say to use the change settings tab to change the paper type but there just simply isn't that option. I have tried all the other tabs like more options etc but can't find anything that relates to the paper type. Can any one help pleases?

It should be in the printer dialog (the one you get after you press print in the PSE print dialog.)

In the Windows version:

File > Print > Printer Settings > Change Settings > Paper Type

or:

File > Print > Printer Settings > Change Settings > Advanced Settings > (which takes you to your printer configuration dialog)

(Sorry, don't know if the version for your OS works anything like this.)

You are most welcome -- thought it was worth a try but didn't know if there was any similarity or not. Is it possible that Elements just prints using whatever global printer configuration you have set up, so that you have to select paper type via the OS rather than in Elements itself? That's just a guess, of course.

I'm thinking that I read somewhere that the mac OS uses CUPS (Common Unix Printing System)? If it's anything like GNU/Linux then I'm assuming there is some system level printer configuration dialog somewhere....

As I have PSE 9 and a Mac but no printer at the moment I was interested in the answer.

A quick internet search yielded the following:

Hopefully it helps.

Looks as if cfnz has the answer! So as I suspected,

"...On a mac, you choose the paper and print quality in the OS X system print window that opens after you click the Print button in the PSE window..." (emphasis added).

:D

That's what I thought

But apparently there's something else going on (or the OP misunderstood me)
