In the market for cameras with interchangeable lens, or single lens reflex cameras, Canon controlled 44.5 percent of the market, followed by Nikon with 29.8 percent and Sony with 11.9 percent, according to the data.

This is for 2010, and is worldwide data (according to http://www.bloomberg.com …igital-camera-models.html (external link)).

I have no idea what the historical perspective on this is, but the same article shows Canon holding steady in overall digital camera share, while both Sony and Nikon are gaining share (but both still behind Canon - Sony just barely behind).

Looks like Nikon/Sony's rise was at the expense of companies other than Canon.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

That's just 'Digital camera' figures

further down it says..

Still a big difference there.

Means nothing to me though, I've made my choice..:D

Competition is good for all! LOL!
That being said, I wish Canon would go ahead and put out a 3/4s camera. Something slim like the NEX3 and 5 that can work with all Canon lenses (with an adapter of course). A pancake lens on something like that would probably make a great travel camera. Or a G12 type 3/4s camera. Oh, the options!
Wait, what was the point of this thread?
