Finally got up the never to show my face... so here it goes. All done with Qbox24 and 430EXII

I have a temporary fixation on this style of PP - going for an SNL type look.

I really like the PP on these. The first 2 seems slightly blown out on the skin, especially on the hand. but other than that i think they are pretty nicely executed, good job.

If you have not calibrated your monitor, thats probably why they seem blown out. I did go for a hi-key look no doubt, but my histogram shows no blown highlights, actually quite far from being blow. Very hi-key and 'pop' looking, but I made sure I didn't blow them out.

I totally get the SNL vibe :) Nice pp.
I like #1 and 3 best, I think your expressions are natural and the posing is nice.

I really like your expression in the first, I think the lighting on your face is the most flattering, and I like you body language the best, you look very comfortable. The lighting on all of these are really good, and I think you've already gone from not shooting self-portraits to shooting really good self portraits. My only criticism is in the tiny details, which, in my opinion, make good portraits great. Things like the symmetry of your jacket and the tie running straight down the middle, over your belt. It's also one of the most difficult things to do in a self portrait, because you can't well see what you're doing while you take it. Things like the collar of your jacket just peeking over the lapel of the jacket and your lean detract a bit (having something as bright as your white shirt over your dark suit, it breaks the line of the lapel and your eye keeps going there, because it's brighter than your skin), or your hand in your pocket making the bulge in the line of your body in the third. but they're all solid portraits, and they're all a bit different. One, you look comfortable, and it feels more like you're talking with a friend, and three is very dapper, but I think 4 says "this is me", and I like it the best. They're all really good man; nail the little details down, I think you'll really really get brilliant portraits. :)

Thanks bud! Much appreciated as I’ve always been a fan of your work. Yes, its tough to keep an eye on things like that while shooting yourself, but whenever I do self portraits again, I probably wont be in a suite/tie so whatever I’m wearing – I’ll pay closer attention to the small details.

What do you think of the one where I’m tipping the hat? I’m so 50/50 on that.

not sure if that was a comment to anyone...
but, I like the suit
its not stuffy, because your tie is loose, hands are in pockets and the addition of the hat
I think it works very well

^^ Thanks a lot guys :)

Much appreciated! For my first time, I really learned a lot. I think I picked up a few notes to keep in mind when working with models in the future too.

Glad you like it, and most of all, I'm glad they came out okay with some 'keepers'.
