So after many months of not having a 35L, I decided to purchase one again. I got one on Canon's refurb site and after taking a few shots, I can't remember if my other one was this soft or if there is an issue. Becuase it is a refurb I want to make sure everything is good before the 14 day return window is up. Posted are a couple of shots with 100% crop. Normal or soft? All jpeg out of the camera (no PP only sooc).

This was f1.4

Looks about right for the 35L. You lose some contrast and sharpness at F1.4 but its more than good enough for normal prints. At F2.0 it was VERY sharp. My 24L is, in my opinion, a bit sharper at F1.4, but barely.

i don't think the flower was moving, but hey at 1.4 just a little could throw it out. Thanks for the input, coming from the 24L mkII back to the 35L I forgot was was normal and what was an issue. The great news is that the AF is spot on, it is probably the first lens that was this accurate (without calibration or MFA).

yellow flowers are difficult to focus as there is almost no contrast in there.
