Our single speedlight brackets will bolt right onto a Speedo dish. Same screw pattern. The only thing you need to do is slightly enlarge the screw holes on the back of the Speedo to accept the #8 screws we use with the bracket. (11/64 drill bit) Because the Speedo dish is much heavier than our dish, especially if you add a Speedo Grid. I would recommend our "Grip Style single bracket if you decide to go with our products. It attaches to any grip head and locks down very hard to prevent and downward slippage from the added weight.

With our dish there would be no need for you to use a Bowens mount on our dish. Our dish screws right to the bracket and will work with the speedlight. We also have DBL brackets for those that want to increase recycle times or double the power output. The reason Shalaby added the Bownen insert is so he could switch from the Speedlight to a bownens type studio flash.

Hope this helps....
Jerry

Excuse me for the potentially n00b like question but to fit the 22" Kacey Beauty dish to a B800 what would i have to buy? Does it come with a speed ring for it? I think $143 for this dish is a great price, would make me way more stoked on it if i didn't have to buy any other things to attach it. Thank you.

We make a special low profile mount for Buff flashes prices are on the site. It would be impossible to make one dish price with any brand studio insert. They range anywhere from 21 usd to 120 usd......

I am in the market for a new BD. I am considering the 22" Kacey model.

I like the look that Stephen Eastwood gets using the 22" Kacey with a grid. Very contrasty. But that is mainly for head shots.

I noticed Kacey also sells a 45" dish, which looks REALLY large, almost too big.
Is it a coincidence that the 45" is TWICE the size of the 22"? How come no sizes in between? No one seems to be making a 30" beauty dish. 22" seems small to me and more for head shots only - am I wrong? My current setup only uses larger full body soft boxes and strip boxes.

Any current users care to chime in on the size of beauty dishes.

A rule of thumb to find the "sweet spot" of a BD is to place it ~ 2 x the diameter away from the subject. Your going to need a large dish to do full length and retain the BD's quality of the light. There are some dishes in the 27 to 34 inch range. I've been making some prototypes around 36" and like where I'm going with it but 6-7 ft away is really pushing it keeping it close and keeping it out of the shot(Here) (external link) is one shot from a set my friend Robert McCadden (external link)did using the 45". It was ~ 8ft away.

Found a thread here that Robert posted here about the shoot (link)

OK, I am convinced with the 45" looking REALLY GOOD.
