I currently have a Linkedin account and was considering adding a portfolio of my photography on my account. My photography business is a passion and something I operate for a second income and have no plans to make it full-time until I am much closer to retirement.

Now the real question is should I post my portfolio on my linkedin account or would that look bad for prospective employers looking at my profile?

Does anyone have two Linkedin accounts? One for each job?

You can setup a "business" on linkedin. I just did that with my blog. Go to add a job, put like "founder and photographer at ____" and linkedin will ask to create a business page for you.

Not sure if this link works or not, but http://www.linkedin.com/company/2210462?trk=tyah (external link)

Photography is my weekend gig, but I did list it on my Linked In profile, and used their profile builder to display a selection of my portraits - nothing edgy, nothing fancy, nothing that could hurt me in my dayjob or future photography projects - I'm not shopping for customers on Linked In, just showing off to my day job colleagues and showing future hiring contacts that I really am running my own business.

I do keep it displayed only for contacts though - not public.

Since you will be keeping your main career your main career, I would reconsider. IMHO Linked in should be used carefully as a networking tool - avoid beginning to treat it a little like facebook. When I go look at a peer's profile or someone I am considering to hire, I would look at a 2nd business on the side and wonder if that would have an impact on job performance.

I think the key is that virtually no one is going to look for a photographer on Linked In - so if it doesn't really help you in that way, think about it.

When you are retiring and transitioning to making photography more of a focus then Linked In would be great way to let all your professional contacts know what's happening.

My $0.02.

That is my exact concern.

Mine too. Don't want to give a "Will do software work but would rather be doing photography" vibe to a potential employer (assuming software is your line of work).

this is risky to put your photography business on Linkin because your daytime employer might not approve of your 2nd job. You might be fired from your daytime job.

All valid concerns, except my employer knows about my photography, and having been there 10 years now, I'm in no rush to look for other gigs *shrug*

Not everyone is in that position, I realize.
