i'm interested in getting a s95, but i'm wondering if there are superior alternatives or if i should wait till September for a successor...

would it be worth it to get it now? or will it be better to wait for an upgraded s95 or for a potential price drop of the s95 in the coming months?

It all depends.
Are there any photos you want to take between now and the time you actually buy the camera?
Seriously, the camera is great.
There may be missed opportunities, and it's always a "buy now vs. wait" issue.
There will always be something else coming down the line.

There will ALWAYS be a better camera for you to wait for. What I tend to do is just sell mine as soon as the upgrade comes out as to minimize value loss on the old one. But on the other side of the same coin, its not like your current camera all of a sudden takes bad pictures just because the new model is out. If youre happy with the results you get with whatever your current camera is, then nothing has changed. If you have no camera now, or you have a very old one, Id pick up the S95 now! I have one and love it! If you have a camera that will hold you over, or you feel you have to have to latest, wait.

I'd also vote for go ahead. I'm sure it'll be replaced, but I don't see a direct replacement coming for at least some time. Price might drop a little but it also doesn't look like there's any drastic price drops in the cards for the near future.
There's always a bit of chance to this stuff though, just have to decide if it's worth it for you or not

The eternal question.

Do you currently have a camera? If you don't, get the S95. You can't take pictures with the camera that you're waiting for.

If you do, does it fall short of what you need very much of the time? If so, does the S95 fill in many of those gaps? If it does, go for it. If it doesn't, is there a camera (and don't discount DSLRs; they are not all that much more than the S95) that does? Then get that. If not, then wait, or pick up a stop-gap.

Whatever you do, don't hold off just to see what's coming. If you do, you'll never get anything and will just keep being disappointed.

I was in that same kind of thinking several months ago, but I went ahead and purchased an S95 and glad that I did. As the following members have mentioned, there will always be something better down the road...that's how it will always be because technology is always progressing. The S95 is an incredible camera for a P&S.

if you need it, then get it. i didnt have a p&s, so i ended up pulling the trigger on a S95. still waiting for it to arrive though. chances are something will be released, but you wouldnt have the camera while waiting. and will it really be worth the wait? what about the one after that?

get what you need, but as everyone else has said.. you can wait if you already have something that suffices.

I doubt anything will replace it anytime soon. The S95 is about as good as it gets. The only thing they can do (in my opinion) to improve it would be to increase the sensor size, but I'm not sure that's a possibility.

Thank you. bw!

The s95 came out less than a year ago... buy it and be happy, that's what I say.

In terms of thickness, does it stand taller than the adjustable ring? Just wondering if it makes the overall camera body thicker (for pocket storage)

it's pretty much exactly the same. It makes the camera feel a little bit thicker in my pocket but it's not too bad, the added grip makes up for it for me anyway

Nope. It really doesnt get in the way of anything and is a serious improvement on the cameras design.
