distraction to me as well. if you wanted this much bokeh and separation, i woulda just went with a different background. makes you wanting to wonder what was behind her or at least see more of it.

try shooting at just a tad bit smaller, like at 2.8

The client, art director and most important I disagree. I don't care what the object is behind her. She whats important and the color and spacial relationships were what I was going for. ;)

sorry to have offended you. I will keep my opinions from your threads further on. And congratulations on picking up the client as we all know the business of photography is...well mainly business.

No offense taken but in the world I work in you have to be able to defend your work. Thats a big difference from being defensive.

This isn't a new client.

I shot it this way because I wanted the find a nice balance between warm and cool colors and her jacket and its the color that was important and just a hint of a location.

Also you certainly can shoot it anyway you'd like to shoot it but again I disagree with the way you would shoot it not because you shouldn't shoot it that way for you or for a project you might be shooting for but because it wouldn't be the right way for me to shoot it with this client and what is going to be the final product.

I would've shot it the same way (maybe not as well) and I agree with you 100%. We are paid to deliver what the client wants. Sometimes what we like in a shot differs from what the client likes and that should trump all depending on your relationship with said client. I think it's a great shot.

Vertical Crop around the subject would solve the distraction problem. JMHO.
