So I THINK this will work, but wanted to throw this out at you guys.

I own the Cheetah Speed Pro Bracket, along with my 430EXII Speedlight. Here's a pick of the bracket:
http://www.cheetahstand.com …-Speed-Pro-Bracket/Detail (external link)

as you can see in the 3rd pic, it has an umbrella holder - and being the Speedlight is layed flat, it should fit right into the Softlighter II sock, right?

So I want to use that, along with the Softlighter II:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …rella_Softlighter_II.html (external link)

Should work, right? Fit the sock over the Speedlight head, and I should be good to go, right? Can anyone confirm?

Also - do you think with the 430EXII speedlight - should go with the 46" or 36" ? I want the max softness/spread, but don't want to loose efficiency.

It looks like it would work. I don't have the cheetah stand bracket, I just use a generic flash bracket and an umbrella very similar to one you have. I bought two for $39 on ebay and have been very happy with them, they are 36" umbrellas

my only concern with regular umbrella/hot shoe adpaters are they wont center the flash in the middle of the umbrella.

thats why i like the idea of the speed pro bracket which, in theory, would center it.

just looking for confirmation - and thoughts on the 36" vs. 46" for my 430EXII speedlight.

In my very personal opinion, centering the flash is nice and all, but not that important because its not a round light source compared to a monolight.

Centering a rectangle in a circle... is still a rectangle in a circle, i doubt the differences to be overly noticeable.

Don't plan on using the Speed Pro's umbrella holder without testing it first! Every Speed Pro I've worked with (approximately six) has had an abysmally poor and totally unusable umbrella mount. Here's why:

I've had to bend the support arms on each of the brackets to attain anything even close to parallelism between the umbrella shaft and the Speed Pro track.

The best solution, IMHO, would be to use a 51" or 64" PCB PLM V2 with a 'cage' modified with a Bowens mount:

Get the optional front diffuser and you'll wind up with a Softlighter workalike that's 100% Speed Pro friendly.

Dave's approach using a PLM V2 is ideal.
Another option is to get a Pocket Wizard AC7. It was designed as an RF shield but is also a great flash/umbrella bracket.

I think I just put an L bracket from the hardware store in a hotshoe umbrella mount and attached my speedlight to my remote trigger and screwed the trigger to the bracket.

if i went with a regular style hot shoe umbrella adapter, does anyone know of an "L bracket" I could use to I can have the speedlight more centered?

i'm finding it crazy that there's no speedlight umbrella brackets that allow for the speedlight to be mounted horizontally! really?

i just went through like all of the ones at B&H...

My cactus v2 has a built in swivel... This allows me to lay the flash flat against the umbrella shaft. Something similar would be ideal for this application.

I know this doesn't directly help, but I'm all about offering alternatives...
