Per another members request.

Do you use your print button on your camera body?

I think that Canon could market for their printers much more effectively by having an ad pop up in the menu occasionally and let that button be used for something more useful. Perhaps just have the ad pop up when you use the now usefully reassigned button function.

I think Canon should just quit putting that button on the camera. I pay enough money - I don't want to see any advertisements either. Just make it a menu option to direct print. I'd like that button to become MLU if at all possible.

Nope. It just sits there and stares at me. It should be configurable to something else. It also shouldnt even be on their DSLRs. Who spends thousands of dollars on a camera body to NOT post process their images and just print a JPEG directly from their camera to an inkjet printer?!

Just a guess, but I think it exists because the Canon printer product management group asked for it.

In other words, customers didn't ask.

Recently I used a Selphy printer on location and I did not need to use the print button to make prints. To print I scrolled through the images and used the "set" button to send the image to the printer. This leaves me wondering when is the print button needed to print or does it have some other use that would cause it to be called a print button.

Well, one thing is for sure-once all the other buttons on your camera fail, the print button will be the last man standing:)

The print button is also a "RAW/JPEG" button on the 7D.

So I guess I do use it. Just not for printing.

I guess the last poll about this from 2008 or 2009 wasn't good enuf? It showed less than 1% of users had ever used the button, some thought it might be useful but had never tried it, most who just thought it was silly and a preponderance of people who thought there would be far better uses for the button... such as MLU.

I suspect we'll see the same thing in this poll.

So far almost 3% of people either -

  1. Use the 'Print' button
  2. Pressed the wrong option
  3. Thought that the other 'Yes' voter might get lonely.

I'm going for a combination of 2 and 3.
