My Xsi came with a 18-55 zoom, I like outdoor photography but my wife wants more indoor family events. Could anybody be so kind to suggest a decent lens under $250?
I got a birthday coming up so I think I'm gonna make her buy it too. I guess I'll also need to upgrade the on board flash, but the lens sounds like more fun right now.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts....

For my money - assuming for a minute you're going with the wife to keep her happy... - I'd throw the money into a flash. A flash will be the best way to drastically improve your image quality; moreso than a new lens.

If you want to go ahead and make yourself happy, take a look into the Canon 55-250IS. Great little lens that only sorta stretches your budget (you'll probably find it for about $300). Not great reach for nature/outdoor photography, but it'll get you started (nearly) within your budget.

I'd too go with either a 270EX or a 430EX flash instead. Not too many good indoor lenses for about $250. With the flash, the kit lens should be fine.
