Anyone who remembers their first experience in assembling or dissembling a rotalux modifier will know that I at least should get a "Certificate of Completion" from Elinchrom to display proudly on my wall. Holy Sufferin' Sacred Heart o' Mary, it was a pain in the arse. I said so many bad words, I probably don't deserve an award, just a mouth full of soap. It is a completely different beast from the octa bank, which is a snap to put up, and think I'm going to have to leave it assembled forever. For the sake of my mental health. Dang.

ahahh I agree! The Rotalux takes some time to get used to. :) First time trying to put the softbox up I thought I will brake it by using too much force (I tend to brake stuff like that, so I'm extra careful).

yes, well thanks for the show of empathy. I'm exhausted now. Think I'll mix a pitcher of martinis and take to my bed...

I find it easier now to assemble the softbox. Just have something hard like floor etc below the speedring and press/pull the rods :)

edit - not sure if thats actually a good method, as it applies some pressure to the speedring.

Holy cow! Where'd you find the miniature plane?! :D

Congrats, Sue. Soon you'll be doing it in your sleep.

I really think the lampshade approach (over the head) couldn't be easier. I can open/close a rotalux in less than 10 seconds, and this way nothing gets dirty or scratches up a floor.

Elinchrom is now offering field support for the Rotalux modifiers. ;)

I just wish they had a more secure method of initially hanging the larger modifiers.

I mean before you lock the ring. On more than one occasion I've nearly sheared off the modeling lamp because the modifier wanted to jump off the instrument before I could lock it in place.

I never really understood how it works :(

I can't get the frick frackin' rotalux off of the d-lite now. The blue sliding lock mechanism is showing it is in the "unlock" position. I loosened the white screw on the mounting ring. I pushed in and slowly rotated the whole unit all the way around, waiting for it to "find" the opening and slip out, it didn't. I pulled out and did the same thing, no luck. This is SO not a happy for me today. It's kind of like the baby you looked forward to for nine months -- yeah, ya love it but it won't stop crying and pooping... Any ideas on how I can get the stupid Rotalux off the d-lite? It's kind of hard to explain, like explaining color to a blind person, so I imagine not too many people will have any answers other than "just keep trying". I suffer for my craft.

Tighten that white ring and try again, otherwise you'll be trying forever :)

put the strobe on the modifier first, lock it and then put it on a stand, i've had a few close calls myself :D
