I am very pleased with the quality of the EZ Pro, and I think the adjustable "beauty dish" deflector will help a lot with light spread when using a single speedlight. The added size will also help for full body shots.

so there's an internal difussion and an internal beauty dish deflector?

hmm... interesting.

Yes, the interior is silver, and this is an umbrella based soft box. The "beauty dish" deflector mounts to the umbrella shaft and the dish position can be adjusted by sliding closer to or further from the strobe head. Next is the internal diffusion panel, and then the external diffusion panel. With a speedlight, there are a lot of options to try.

hmm, pretty cool.
i'm guessing positioning the bd deflector at the furthest point will give the most even spread? or would it be vice versa? closer to the strobe for the most even spread?

I would think the closer it was to the strobe, the more intense your central hotspot would be.

Dave,
Whats the sweet spot for the internal beauty dish for max spread using a single speedlight?

Honestly, I don't know, I've only used it with my elinchrom strobes (I don't have any way to mount speedlights to it), and have not done any testing with the distance yet. I have it pushed in all the way and have been happy with the results.

Thanks - and what about the grid didn't you like ? I would like having a grid option, so if this grid is junk, do you know of another brand that would work better?

I know you received my reply by PM, but in case anyone else was wondering about the grid for the EZ Pro softbox, here is my reply:

It sagged so bad that it was like 6-8 inches too long, and if attached at the bottom, the lower grid cells were all bunched together in the bottom third, effectively blocking much of the light and turning it into a much smaller box. Besides sagging top to bottom, it also sags "out" from the middle bowing out about 6-8 inches if you have any sort of downward angle on the box. I returned the grid for a refund.

You can mount the outer diffusion panel so it is recessed two inches inside the outer lip, so this does help give you some control.
