I'm planning to attend a music concert, and would like to buy a new camera. However, I am undecided as to whether I should buy Canon powershot sx230 or Sony Hx9v?

And for those that have a sx230, how long is the battery life?

These two cameras are pretty much the same in many ways (CMOS sensor, ~400mm lens,
1080 video with optical zoom and stereo sound, built-in GPS) and are being sold for the same price.
There are two main differences. The first is the Sony's wide lens - 24mm being much wider than the Canon's 28mm.
The other difference is that Sony have taken the path of creating automatic-oriented point and shoots, and the HX9V is no exception.
It provides vast auto modes (and a fabulous sweep panorama mode) at the expense of manual control, which it lacks completely.
The Canon has both automatic and manual controls over exposure, as well as many 'cool' effects.

I think both cameras are great choices.
If you don't work manually at all, I'd take the HX9V. Otherwise, the SX230 will do just fine.
