My wife wants me to start taking some family pics of us and, well, I'm not 100% comfortable with OCF. I've done some basic stuff and have a softbox but it's all been inside in a confined area. She's wanting some outdoor pics (think beach).

I know you want to achieve a balance between natural and flash but I'm not really sure about lighting placement and power/ratios and what not. Can anyone recommend a book that covers this sort of stuff?

I'd recommend Off-Camera Flash Techniques for Digital Photographers by Neil van Niekerk.

try youtube while youre getting your books shipped it. it has soooo much information on there.

but yea, i have joe mcnally's dvd and also the onelight workshop DVD.

i would recommend dvds over books since they can demonstrate easier. much easier. ive read a couple flash books and they will only help so much.

Anyone look art "Mastering Canon EOS Flash Photography" by NK Guy?
Here is his website. This seems to have a lot of really good info for speedlite photography.

Agree with previous posts, plus another one, Speedliter's Handbook, by Syl Arena (external link)

He also has a site speedliting.com (external link), loads of useful info there.
