I'm due in 3 months and would like to do my own newborn shoot. I wish I could just ask what was the best lens was for this situation and get that but unfortunately I can't. I'd like to explore some price options, if you can recommend a lens for each price point I'd appreciate it. Any additional info would be appreciated. Thank you.

I was going to say the same thing listed here, with a preference on the Sigma 30mm, I found the 50mm not to be wide enough.

ditto. I have the 85mm and it's a bit long for indoors on cropped body.

I did my newborn shoot with only a 50L on my 5DII. Perfect focal length on a full frame sensor imho.

Like others have suggested, I would go with the Sigma 30 (which is a little outside your budget), or the Canon 50 1.8.

Good luck and have fun with it. Remember, baby's in charge! It takes a lot of prep time and patience. Don't give up though, the 1 or 2 keepers you get will be well worth the time and effort!

I used a 60mm 2.8 Macro on my first newborn shoot and it worked out lovely.
