Thank you for the great turnout, and all of the great entries! Now a few words on each submission (in order of submission) before the winner is announced.
Allen---Nice and humorous. Excellent exposure and framing, subject requires center placement. Popping colors, I can almost see the urine...yech! But the cutoff signage on both sides of the frame kind of bugs me a little. Still, solid capture.
Gail---The opposite of closed; open 24 hours! Too bad about the distracting power lines and even the leafless tree. just a bit too busy. There are some nice colors in there. A lil' bit of camera shake present.
Tony---And from what I can recall from my drinking days is that the closing of this brewery, though a definate burden to employees, is by no means a loss to the beer drinking community...another yech!
A very nice capture with your 5D and 'brick', but only if you could have gotten a lot closer to the building. There is a lot of character in that building that would have made for some great up-close photography. Still, a very nice capture.
Monty---Love the symmetry, love the colors and especially love the irony of the opened door. Great capture!
corkneyfonze--- Definitely an odd one out. Does it fit the competition, sure, those windows with all of those different reflections of different backgrounds are closed. Nice capture, but its a bit small, and I want to see a lot more...
David---Man, there is always one in the classroom, and David I'll bet an Olympia beer that you were 'that' one in your class. Yes, the shutter is closed. But from what I can tell is that your subject is oof, your framing is too centered for my taste and next time try exposing to the right...
T3 Heavy Shop---Natural disasters are never fun, and that looks bad. Good colors and exposure. I can appreciate the reason why you framed the way you did, revealing the road and painted lines just below the water's surface. But as I see it those halfway submerged Road Closed barriers tell the story, leaving the bottom portion of your capture as a distraction. Just how I see it A crop just below the barrier's reflections would tighten this image up a lot, in my opinion.. Good capture, nonetheless.
hd2672---I like the framing of your crop, and the simplicity of what is in the frame. Too bad your capture is a little too hot in the highlights, and that the heavy crop has produced some very distracting artifacts. Still, good eye with your crop.
Garry---Dang it I want some blueberries, but Garry's blueberry shack is closed up tighter than a dug in tick. Nice and simple, good exposure and framing. I would have like to have seen just a little more seperation of the stand from the background. If possible and given the amount of room needed, move further away from the subject until you get the identical framing from say 200mm focal length that you had at 79mm. You'd probably be at f/5.6 now and most likely will need support for the slower shutter speed, but the same framing with the increased focal length will help to further seperate your subject from background. Nice capture.
Hank---Does not get any simpler than that. Simple and effective. Nice framing and composition, but I'm not thrilled with some of the post...just me. Well done.
John---Always a pleasure seeing a capture of yours, and yours has nice framing and colors. Well done exposure.
Phil---Simple and well done, both exposure and framing. All elements in the frame work together, well done.
Whew, finally finished. Just a reminder, the above C&C is just my perspective, niether right or wrong. But hopefully I have been a little helpful.
