Judges I highly recommend viewing my latest entry (and all entries for that matter) in Firefox or equivalent managed color browser. The sky color in Chrome is not authentic and may be misconstrued as defective image processing.

Isn't that the same image you posted earlier this year?

Kevin, was it in SMWYG, and not this one? I cannot find it anywhere.

There has been some great talk in here as of late....

I think I am a living example of shooting and processing to my own needs. I love vignettes....love them. I use them the same way I did in the darkroom...to lead the eye to where I think it should be.

Now...I have heard all kinds of opinions on it...and yes I know that I over do it....a lot. I know this.
I have heard that one needs to do all this type on stuff in camera. Doing it in post is cheating.

I have heard that the actual image (negative) is just half the picture. The darkroom work (processing) is the other half. So process away.

I have heard that only amatuers use vignettes. I have heard that a couple photogs that I highly respect add some sort of vginette to every shot they take.

Here is the deal. I take everything I hear and apply it to how I want to shoot, how I want to process and how I want things.

So shooting for judges....or opinions....or to be like other shooters....just isn't in my agenda...

This contest is to push us all....to get us out of our comfort zone...and from the conversation...it sounds like it is doing that...

Love this group and this discussion....

^ It does tend to make us venture into areas , that while still comfy, allow us to explore views we may not have seen before.
I shoot what I see around me, and not living in a city, nor a desert, nor an exotic locale, it probably ends up being"mundane" and possibly boring and everyday.I am okay with that, as what is around me gives me immense pleasure every day.Having said that, its fun to use the everyday and try and make it a little unique.
It doesn't happen often, usually just a fluke, but when it does, it makes me wonder what else I have been overlooking.
Like Kevin has his sports,Jason has his Postals,Joe loves his West Marin,Jay excels in flight,we all bring something to this competition( and I think thats a misnomer, I don't feel I am "competing" with others, I am merely trying to showcase my best photo )we all learn from previous photos, our own and others.
Its not meant to "judge".but toss opinions out, allow folks to see what you may not have seen through the viewfinder.Thats the part I like/dislke, because like babies, we all think ours is cuter:p

I always want to improve, there is always room for that.

Follow your own passion and excitement. Shoot what excites you. If you can capture your own excitement, you just got a good image."

Right....To me, it's art, it's personal, most all the images I post have stirred something inside me...My hope is that if it stirred me, perhaps it will stir you...Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't...But I shoot for me first, if others like it, that's really cool. (I do/did the same thing with music)

Awesome contributions to the thread.. I wholeheartedly agree with the comments on this entire page, about the photos being personal... and learning so much from others, yet being true to our own individual sense of style and passion....

I love seeing the world through other eyes .... it is always a pleasure to see something as I never would have seen it for myself.. I think that is of huge value, and makes the photography world so interesting.. just love the place in general I guess...
