my comments for this week:

Jason C ... Asphalt Skyline ... well composed and very creative. The white line at the top of the frame really sets this off. The razor thin depth of field is all that is necessary here and having more of the frame in focus would not have added a thing

Garry Kirsch ... The hardest thing ... every aspect of this bird says awkward yet the eyes are somehow focused and on task. A different crop eliminating the bottom leaves might make this an even better shot.

-g- ... Love this image. Rock solid jetty setting off the soft layers in the distance, the scale introduced by the people, the birds balancing the frame beautifully.

macroshot ... Tunnel Vision Love the countless lines converging into the distance. If the viewer has any trouble finding the vortex, the green arrow points the way. Obviously not a technical tour de force but a very interesting composition.

thatkatmat ... West Hastings ... Like the composition, detail and BW treatment on this one. Given all the 90 degree angles in the frame, I find the vertical distortion bothersome particularly on the left side of the pic.

dilorenzo1954 .... Who are these people ? .... what a fun way to turn a pic that's been taken a billion times into something unique. Could use a little room to the left of the sunglasses. Fantastic shot that I'm sure mom and dad loved.

macroshot - TunnelVision
I liked your original post so you know. This one has less appeal for me however it is well done and I like the color palette. It has a muted earth tone to it. Not sure the blacks are subtle here as the contrast is pretty high. All in all an interesting image. I almost wish the most immediate car in front of you wasn't there. The thing I hate about street shots these days is the cars have no where near the same charm as they did 40 or more years ago.

Which one? I only ended up changing it about 5 times...

Quite true! And my grunged-up processing didn't help much.

Image shot in Colorado while whizzing through - driving, not urinating btw - at about 80 mph. Geno had posted some stuff a while back from the train and I liked the effect but this was harder to accomplish since it was necessary to negotiate the awesome curves, hold and shoot through the windshield, and try to take in the breathtaking scenery without crashing. The drive through the Rockies on I-70 was amazing, but this was just a snap through the windshield in a tunnel (with poor editing.) :)

Thanks for the comments.

Congrats to this week's winners.
Thanks for the HM judges, and for the comments, they are very useful.
I agree that Geno's shot was top drawer - loved it!

Congrats guys.. and nice work judges... I totally forgot to enter an image last week. I thing I was in a whirlwind.. happens to me sometimes.. lol... Must look and see what I can use this week. I haven't picked up my camera much in the last few weeks... :( I need to go on a trip... lol..

Haven't been inspired much lately... sometimes I fall into that photographic funk place... and so I enjoy everyone else's stuff for a while.. ;)

Thanks for the comments, guys!

Kristy, I know what you're talking about. I've been finding it difficult to find something interesting to shoot for awhile now. Just keep taking the camera out and press that shutter button!

Didn't you just buy some extension tubes? I think you did, or was it someone else... lol...

It's almost my birthday, so I was thinking maybe that would be something they can give me. :)

Ok my comments (finally sorry they're so late)

Jason C
I found this image interesting. Really enjoy the way it plays with perspective.

GarryKirsh
Nice timing Garry. Just think the leaves on the leaves on the bottom are fighting with the subject. Still very nice.

-g-
My fav of the week. Love the graphic quality and I was not alone with this being the favorite. My only crit would be on the bottom water. In my opinion, it would be stronger if it were cropped to above the water because I feel the water is competing with the lovely graphic nature of this image. To me this image is the simple, almost japanese art nature of the mountains and the silhouette of the people and the birds. The water, in my opinion, is doing nothing to support those elements and if cropped the dark bottom really anchors the image. Still a very nice image indeed. Again it was my favorite.

macroshot
I like this image Hank but maybe taking it just a bit farther with even more motion blur but still a really interesting image.

thatkatmat
Nice conversion and really nice B&W. Just wish the verts were straight. (easy fix in photoshop)

dilorenzo1954
Cute image Ed. I'll bet the parents love this. My nit-pik here would be the OOF couple is brighter than the subject. If they were down a stop I feel it would be stronger.

Thanks Allen.....I struggled trying to decide which lines to pick, I chose the closest (on the right, because they seem like leading lines....) Great to hear everyone's thoughts...Thanks!

Easy fix in photoshop Mat.

Capture the image with the square marque tool
then edit/transform/skew or perspective or one of the others. I usually also use guides to help.

I thought that you had it sorry. You can't adjust that in LR? I hear CS6 is just around the corner.

You can do lens correction with LR3. It even has presets.
