In my example it means it will work with both USB3 and USB2. So if you have a computer that has only USB2 ports it will still work at the slower USB2 speeds.

The only problem with taking a computer class is that the information is outdated by the time you finish the class. :-(

Saying that I started up a 10 year old laptop to give to the kids yesterday, after clearing it of pretty much everything it works a treat even with 264k of memory, windows 2000 and Internet Explorer 7 oh and USB1 which is sooooooooooo sloooooooowwwww.

Back to the topic of photos

Here is another photo from the bike race where I took “Cool Dude on a Bike”.

This was spotted on my Flicker and it got published in the Surrey Advertiser our local newspaper. My first published photo!

They were taken in my local village of Ripley in Surrey, it was the practice race to test the route for the 2012 Olympics. Being my first attempt at cycle race photography I wanted to get there early but the police had closed all the roads from about 2 miles away without warning so I had to ditch the car, pump up the tyres on my mountain bike and peddle. I met up with Dan a good friend of mine on the way and only minutes before the riders came past. He wanted to stand in the sun and I wanted it behind me so we had to split up and he ended up opposite me. He is the guy with the little boy on his shoulders far right of the shot in “cool dude” below and just clipped above.

I was shocked at the speed the police outriders came through and the front runners, but I sorted out my settings as best I could. I really wanted photos of riders going past showing movement yet still be able to recognise the people in the crowd as I knew a lot of them and also keep enough of the buildings to be able to tell it was Ripley. I converted "Cool dude to B&W as it suited the rider so well. It is my fave out of 50 odd shots, it even has my next door neighbour in it (woman far left) and conisbee butchers who make the best sausages.

Congrats to the week's winners. Thanks for the comments. No, my image isn't tilted, however. I think it's the low perspective and odd sizes of the subjects that give that impression. Salvation Mountain in Niland, CA is the location.

I photograph to find out what something will look like photographed.

Kristy, what kind of computer do you have? You can quickly find out what type of USB port you have, depending on the OS.

Thanks for the info and the link Tony & Tim... I bought one from B&H earlier today, :)

Tony, my computer is a Dell xps 8000 with i7 processor, and win7. If that leads you to any answers... :) I think card reader should work, don't you?

You should be able to go to Dell.com and enter your computer's tag number. It will tell you everything about the build including hardware and software it came with.

I did that, and downloaded some new drivers for the card readers, and updated the BIOS since a new one was available.. but the readers still aren't reading the memory cards. :(

One thing that was odd though.. I ran a test on the drives in the reader and the one I want to use said it was "busy" in use by the system.. but it isn't busy.. . and I can't find anywhere in the background where something is running..

I think I've done all I can from installing the updates, to resetting the computer back to the "last known good configuration" in the boot directory. That usually fixes things...

Oh well... At least the new one is on the way... thanks again to Tim and Tony for the recommendations. :D My yongest daughter has her first "daddy-daughter" dance tomorrow night, and I needed to make some room on a memory card for a few pictures... It looks like I'll be plugging in my camera to pull a few shots off the card lol..

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys. :)

I thought of one more thing that may be keeping it from working as it has happened to me. With multiple drives sometimes the drive letter that the system wants to assign to the drive is already in use and can't be assigned. If you go to the hard drive maintance section and look at the drive letters for each drive and the card reader, if there is a conflict you can change the drive letter on the reader. It may or may not help but since you are waiting on the reader, if you're like me ........
BTW, have you tried just hooking a cable to the camera and using the camera software to download the files?

Thanks Mike... I checked the drive letters... they are all fine and not doing anything obscure.. lol.. I think the reader is just dying.

Yeah.. I did plug the camera to the computer to pull of a shot the other day... couldn't wait, because they looked so yummy... I wanted to see how it looked big...

Muffins from my kitchen. I've been experimenting with modifying recipies to make them healthy. These are applesauce instead of oil or butter, Oats, wheat flour, brown sugar, honey, bananas, cinnamon and a couple other things... pretty yummy and wholesome.

I thought the hot pink wrappers would make my girls think they were extra special. lol..
