Myles only sees his dad about once a month and is disappointed when he leaves as he had just done here....

What's in the background that's so dark? Whenever I get shots of my younger cousins they have to be in front of a huge mess of stuff that always takes away from the picture.

The image appears to convey exactly what you described. Nice job capturing it. It's getting a little hot over his right eye but it all comes together very well. And the BG is excellent for this type of shot.

Too bad about his dad...

The picture captures his feelings very well. What was the source of lighting that is directly in front of him which puts the left side of his face in deep shadow as he looks over his shoulder at the camera. It makes me imagine he is about to enter a brightly lit house from a very dark garden.

Myles was about to enter his little play house...he goes there when, like most kids do sometimes, he wants to be alone.. It was late in the day and the sun was low and a ray was coming thru the trees and got him almost streight on in the face..the only PP done on this is to remove some "hot" areas on his left cheek.

The background was dark, but I'm suprised how dark it came out in this photo.. I'm getting to really love this new lens:lol:

BTW...this mood didn't last long, we went fishing right after this photo.!

I'm with you on the background clutter...it can be very distracting so I love to shoot with a VERY SHALLOW DoF...I just happened to see him in front of this doorway with the light in a restricted spot and was lucky enough to grab my camera without things changing (especially his being there!). I did mention there was not much PP (again, lucky shot) but there was a lot of cropping here, as is usual when I shoot kids...I need to try and capture the whole body movement more often....maybe I'm a bit lazy and just go streight for the eyes.. Thanks for looking and your comments:D

Love the expression. You really nailed the eyes. My only thought (besides the left side being a little hot) is to try a slightly tighter crop. Hope you don't mind that i post my "version". I'll remove it if you'd like.

I wonder how your photo would look in B&W. Have you tried converting it?

Yes , it does look good with that crop...and I'm a cropping kinda guy !! But that picture loses the left(our right) side of his face when I brought the image size down to 100 kb for posting...in print and on my monitor with higher resolution the ear and contour of his face are very visable... Yes you are welcome to have your way with any photo I post here...I really like to see what I might be missing and how others view the same image....thanks for your efforts and comments and I do like how your crop works !:D And yes I did try B&W and it lends itself pretty well to it, but I missed the color of his eyes when I converted...but by all means try that also...very intrested in seeing the results !!:D :D
