I'm going to Maui and Kauai. Not sure if I should bring the 70-200 or the 100-400? I'm bringing a couple of wide angles. But, I hate bringing a bunch of equipment. Anyone have any suggestions on which lens would work best? Thanks!

I would bring the 100-400. The only time you'll use it is for wildlife or surfing.

I'm headed to The Big island in 2 weeks! I plan on doing tones of landscape and waterfalls, so I'm bringing my 16-35II, 70-200 L IS II and my 100mm L macro for flowers shots! And thinking about buying the 50mm L as well.

I just got back from Maui last month from a 10 day stay, I had my 24-70 and 70-200 and that was perfect. I have a few shots from it in this section somewhere. Need any advise on what to do while there let me know. One thing for sure, Look up Hike Maui company and go on their hikes!! They have a 11 hr all day one (which was just awesome), and a 5hr one which is nich also. The 11hr one includes driving time (road to Hana), and the guys giving the tour know everything about everything!

Do you think a tour to Hana is better than driving? I like to stop at everything that is cool! I can't find my extender, nor do I want to. I can't stand it. So, you think the 70-200 will get dolphins, sea animals from a boat tour okay? THANKS! BTW, we're all booked in Maui except for the road to Hana. We were thinking of driving that.

I used a 21 and a 35-70 exclusively. Only once did I want something longer.

Of course, animals/surfers don't interest me.

I love animals, though. I imagine there will be sea life there and that will be of a high interest! I have the 17-40 for wide angle. Wishing I had the 16-35!!

Definitely a 17-40. I would pick 70-200 over 100-400.

If you like to stop, take picture and enjoy your time - drive. Lots of great places along the way and some past Hana (i.e. Charles Lindbergh grave site). You'll probably want to spend more time at the Seven Sacred Pools then a tour would allow for, as well.

I'm actually a portrait photographer. So, the landscapes are just for me. :)
